About Assam SAPCC

SAPCC Overview

Assam SAPCC 2.0 covers the period 2021–2030 and updates Assam SAPCC 1.0. It was prepared by the Assam Climate Change Management Society under the Department of Environment and Forest, with technical support and consultations involving state departments, experts, and civil-society organisations. Assam SAPCC 2.0 aligns Assam's climate priorities with India's Nationally Determined Contributions, the Sustainable Development Goals, and state development objectives.

Climate profile

  • Assam has a tropical monsoon rainforest climate, with warm and humid summers, a pronounced monsoon season, and generally mild winters.
  • The Brahmaputra and Barak valleys, surrounding hills, and varied terrain create distinct local and agro-climatic conditions across the state.
  • Assam SAPCC 2.0 records rising maximum and minimum temperatures and changes in annual rainfall, while future projections indicate continued warming and greater rainfall variability.

Climate stress at a glance

  • District-level Vulnerability Assessment helps Assam SAPCC 2.0 recognise variations in climate conditions, exposure, and adaptive capacity across Assam.
  • Departmental and expert consultations connect climate evidence with sector knowledge and implementation experience.
  • Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and India's Nationally Determined Contributions supports integration with wider development planning.
