About

Mission Overview

The National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE) was launched on 24 June 2010 under the 11th Cabinet Plan, and aligned to India's NDCs through a review by the Executive Committee on Climate Change (ECCC), chaired by the Principal Secretary to the Hon'ble Prime Minister, on 1 September 2021. The Mission is anchored by the Ministry of Power, with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) as the implementing agency and MoEFCC as the co-nodal ministry. NMEEE's focus is the transition of industrial sectors to a low-carbon footing — through the Perform-Achieve-Trade (PAT) scheme, the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and India's carbon market, and the longer-horizon shift to hydrogen, CCUS and renewables-led industrial energy.

  • Launched 24 June 2010 under the 11th Cabinet Plan.
  • Aligned to India's NDCs by the ECCC review on 1 September 2021.
  • Nodal: Ministry of Power · Implementing: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) · Co-nodal: MoEFCC.
  • Flagship instruments: Perform-Achieve-Trade (PAT) and the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS).
  • New sectors being added to PAT / CCTS — Tyres, Foundry, Forging, Ceramic, Glass; Mining in the longer term.
  • Convergence with National Solar Mission, National Water Mission, Green Hydrogen Mission and Mission LiFE.
  • Internationally aligned with the Paris Agreement and SDGs 7 (Affordable Clean Energy) and 13 (Climate Action).

Vision

To embed industrial energy efficiency at the heart of India's low-carbon transition, anchoring the country's NDC mitigation pathway through market-based instruments and deep sectoral decarbonisation.
